The GingerLead¹ is a soft, padded belly sling with a leash & handle to help dogs with weak hind legs walk. Ideal for dogs recovering from knee or hip surgery, dogs suffering from arthritis, degenerative myelopathy or other debilitating ailments, or older dogs needing some assistance getting around. Our dog sling has a soft inner lining, where it comes into contact with your dog’s skin or fur, and a durable exterior. It is easily used by passing the support sling under the belly and bringing the straps, which extend from each end of the support sling, together with the attached padded handle. For additional control, a leash extends from the handle and connects to your dog’s collar or chest harness (photo) with a snap hook, just like any other leash. The straps that extend from the support sling and the leash are adjustable. The leash is also detachable. Watch Videos below. GingerLead dog slings are machine washable. Our male support pad, which contains a cutout, may also be used with female dogs.
HOW TO MEASURE: Support Pad Width Measure from the front of the hind legs (in front of the penis for male dogs) towards your dogs chest to determine the support pad width. For barrel chested dogs (i.e. Boxers, see photo to the left.), measure just the belly area to the base of the rib cage. Downsizing is common for these dogs.
ADJUSTING DIMENSIONS: Measure starting where the handle of the GingerLead will rest in your hand (while you are standing upright), continue under your dog’s belly, up the other side, then back to your hand completing the loop. If it measures 37” or less, the Tall size should be considered
STILL NOT SURE? Female Dogs - Fold a bath towel to 7.5 inches wide to simulate a large, female GingerLead, then sling it under her belly. If that's too big, then re-fold the towel to 4 inches wide to simulate a small, female GingerLead. If she is in between sizes, re-fold the towel to 5.5 inches to simulate a large, male GingerLead. If the small is too big for her, try our Mini GingerLead. Male DogsFold a bath towel to 5.5 inches wide to simulate a large, male GingerLead, then sling it under your dog's belly in front of his penis. If that's too big, then re-fold the towel to 3.5 inches wide to simulate a small, male GingerLead. If that's too big for him, try our Mini GingerLead. Male Dachshunds typically use the Mini GingerLead with the sling behind their penis. Now you should be able to determine which size is the most comfortable for your dog. Check with your veterinarian if you have any questions about whether a GingerLead will fit your dog's needs given their specific medical condition(s).
